My first purchase of an ID card printer - 1/5

At ID Security Online, we value our customers' feedback.

That is why we have decided to share with you the experience of one of our clients who needed to purchase an ID card printer for the first time. We hope that this series of 5 posts will help new buyers with their research of the right ID card solution.

"My name is Patricia Kreamer. Being the office manager of a small company has its benefits, but it also comes with its own set of challenges. For example, being asked to purchase an ID Card printer. Seriously? What is an ID Card Printer? The answer, I have no clue. So I did what any person in the 21st century would do... I Googled it.

As you know, looking on line when you don’t know what you’re looking at can be confusing. There were too many different options! What brand did I want? What type of cards do I want to print on? I began to see words like “duplex” “encoding” and “retransfer” they were all foreign to me. Don’t get me wrong I consider my self very tech-savvy, but I knew I needed some guidance. After all of the research I did, I was left with 4 major questions:

  • What are the differences between Direct to card and retransfer?
  • Do I need a single-sided or double-sided printer?
  • How do I choose the right ribbon?
  • Do I need ID Card software?
I knew nothing about any of the companies that sell ID Card printers so I decided to call the first one I saw on Google, ID Security Online."
